What "16mm" actually means
Dice size is quoted differently by shape. A D6 is measured edge-to-edge — a "16mm D6" is 16mm along one side, the global standard for boardgame and RPG cubes. For the other polyhedral shapes (D4, D8, D10, D12, D20) size is described by overall height or diameter, and manufacturers scale the whole seven-piece set to match a target D20. So when a set is called "standard," it usually means a ~16mm D6 with a ~20mm D20.

How size affects material, weight, and cost
Scaling a die up doesn't just cost more surface — volume grows with the cube of size, so an oversized die uses much more material and weighs a lot more. That matters most for dense materials:
